The Ace Hotel

Photobucket

This week Sam and I stayed at The Ace Hotel for a couple of nights, for our second wedding anniversary. It's actually not until next week, but seeing as I'll be gone on a roadtrip with Coedith and her family at that time, we celebrated early :)

The hotel itself is fantastic, if I remember correctly it used to be a really run down apartment building. Within the past few years it was bought and updated into a trendy, Portlandy hotel. They kept the structure pretty much as it was, the old wooden stairs, the rickety elevator. But the modern updates have a vintage edge.

Our room had a clawfoot tub, wine cooler, record player, and great view. I kept saying how much kitty would love it there, with all the people watching :)

They serve a nice breakfast in the morning, with fruits, cheeses, cold meats, and jams. Wish I ate breakfast like that everyday! And the lobby has a nice lounge area, photobooth, and loft area with a computer, books, and comfy chairs.

So basically, we had a great time :)

Day in Portland

Tuesday was our only full day in Portland, so we mostly ate, shopped, and ate some more :) Breakfast at The Morningstar Cafe, (really good bacon!), then went and saw Transformers :) After that we picked up some things at H&M and Forever 21, Sam went to Powells and found some books, and I went to Anthropologie and tried to fit my vintage figure into modern dresses. Didn't even come close, but I did pick up these sunglasses which were just what I was looking for :)

For a very late lunch we had Sushi at Moi Sushi, and then later dinner at Deschutes Brewery, the mac and cheese is amazing, just in case you ever go ;)

Ohio snippets

Here's some pics from my Ohio trip in May that didn't fit into any posts I did. Slightly random, for memory's sake :)

Akron, Ohio

Photobucket
Saturday we went to an Akron Aeros baseball game, where my uncle threw the first pitch! We had a box, and for the most part it was a beautiful, sunny day :)
After that a few of us walked around town a bit, taking in the sights. There was an old church, deco buildings, and beautiful deserted storefronts, one of which I was coveting, with a high display base and wallpaper, must have been a jewelry store.

Here's some more photos from our weekend, we went twice to The Astoria Coffee House and Bistro, for a delicious breakfast and lunch. Food was great, service was great, and it was darling too! It passed my three tests for a good eatery: Excellent bacon, savory mac and cheese, and creamy hot chocolate.
Our last day there we watched a pretty doe who had jumped the fence into the yard. It was pretty awesome to wash dishes and have a staring contest with a doe just feet away from the window.
On our way out of town we stopped at my favorite creepy old house, a beautiful Victorian that is completely in shambles. The trees, grass, and vines are so out of control you can barely see the house from the road. It's extra creepy that there's still things in the house, like curtains and candlesticks. As much as I would love to see it cleaned up, I love the mystery of it as is.
