De Smet, South Dakota

Photobucket
We spent a day in De Smet, South Dakota, to visit more Laura Ingalls sites!
Photobucket
Here I am in front of the surveyors house they stayed in that Laura called "a mansion". It was of course small and simple, but would have been quite a lot for them at the time!
(there seems to be some confusion, the first photo is not the surveyors house, just the second photo, it was very small.)
Photobucket
There was also a replica schoolhouse.

And before heading to the Homefront (best place ever, more on that later), we walked around town a bit.

Kansas City

Photobucket
We spent a couple days in Kansas City, mostly hanging out with Mav and Nicholes friends...
Photobucket
...and visiting a Lewis and Clark statue.
Photobucket
A stop at the American Girl store was a must...
Photobucket
...and of course the fabulous Re-Runs Vintage...
Photobucket
Where I bought a fantastic sundress, and 40s hat.
Photobucket
Highly recommend if your ever in the area, they're super nice too!
Photobucket
And on our way out we found a covered bridge in Madison County. Pretty cute!

Day 7: Laura Ingalls Wilder House

Photobucket
Sunday we traveled to The Laura Ingalls Wilder House on our way to Kansas City.
(Saturday we mostly hung around the hotel with my aunt and uncle from Ohio, and did some thrifting, so no pictures to show)
Photobucket
Unfortunately there were no photos allowed inside. Too bad because her whole house was amazing. My favorite part was the kitchen.
Photobucket
...Although I may have taken slipped my shoe off for a moment and stepped barefoot on her beautiful linoleum floor...
...may have...
Photobucket
...we even got to hear her clock chime...
Photobucket
It was raining which made it extra special. The smell of warm summer rain on Laura's land was heavenly.

We also visited her gravesite, where a little girl had left a love note for Almanzo.
Photobucket
If you ever get a change to make it over there, do so, they have lots of her belongings on display in the museum, and the house Laura and Almanzo built together is a dream, preserved just how she lived in it.

Day 5: The Ozarks

Photobucket
Today we spent our day in Arkansas, and wading and swimming in Table Rock lake. Ruth and I both got Minnetonka Moccasins at a touristy type shop so we've been wearing them all the time :)

In the afternoon we headed up to The Crescent Hotel, which is an attraction for weddings and ghost hunters.

Photobucket
We saw so many pretty butterflies...
Photobucket

Photobucket
...I even coaxed one on my hand!
(and before anyone asks, thats a birthmark on my arm)

They had a sweet picture and poem about the hotel kitty who had passed on...
Photobucket
...and the current kitties had their own little kitty door and steps! I loved this guys dramatic whiskers.

We also walked through Eureka Springs, which could best be described as a mini San Francisco. In Arkansas. They had cool victorian houses and stores built into the hills. It was quite the destination way back when.

Day 3 and 4: Steps back in time

Photobucket
Wednesday morning we left a little pink motel in Limon Colorado and got back on the road...
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
and absolutely had to make a stop in Kansas to take pictures of Dorothy in her blue gingham playsuit and ruby slippers.
Photobucket

Photobucket
We arrived late at night in Branson Missouri...
Photobucket
...and the next day went to Dicks 5 and 10...
Photobucket
I went a little nutty there, because they had so much old stock stuff...
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Even their shopping baskets were original vintage...
Photobucket

Photobucket
...and their hair products, including the display for the hairnets.
Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Since it was over 100 degrees out, we went for a swim...
Photobucket

Photobucket
...ok, well I mostly was on my phone...
Photobucket
In the afternoon we went to The Titanic Exhibit...
Photobucket
Which unfortunately didn't allow pictures inside...
Photobucket
...but we got some outside the building...
Photobucket
Stay tuned for lots more trip fun!
