Balcony garden

Photobucket

It's kind of silly how long it took me to utilize our little balcony as more living space. Considering how small our apartment is (550 square feet), it's good to use every bit of space possible. I'm not quite finished, I still want a little bistro table for outdoor dining, and some more details here and there, but I have the garden space finished and I love it :)

We've got basil, mint, rosemary, cilantro, chives, and tomatoes. All growing like crazy! Josh and Amy are letting me use their pretty ceramic planters, and I have a wine bottle to water the plants in the morning. All housed on a vintage vanity found at a yard sale.

I found the perfect chairs at Most Everything, a vintage store downtown, thats has some really cute furniture. And the "rug" I made from a burlap sack, I just did a checkerboard stitch for strength.

So there you have it! Hopefully soon I can get those finishing touches done!

Last night I spontaneously decided to rearrange our living room, which isn't a huge change since our living room is tiny. But I managed to change it up a bit, and like it a lot better now. For a side table I stacked vintage suitcases, and instead of cluttering up the coffee table with Martha Stewart magazines, I stacked them against the wall under my sewing basket. Oh and incase you're wondering what that pink cone is, it's our handheld vacuum. Because all my vacuums have to be cute.

Hippo Hardware

After a morning of successful vintage hunting in Portland Twila Jean and I stopped by Hippo Hardware, a big old building filled with vintage and antique fixtures and appliances. The light fixture room is floor to ceiling vintage light fixtures, and as soon as you say "Oooh! I want that one!" you see another you want too. And then another and another...

The birds are flying north...

I've started to collect bird things for my kitchen, and so far have traded for this toaster cover from Brittanynoel, (who's a total darling and has some fun buttons!), salt and pepper shakers from Target, and some sheet music I'll frame. I even found an ever elusive light blue tea kettle today which was quite exciting, and Sam's mother bought us lots of fun things including a crock pot, hand mixer, and white bowls, I just love white dishes.
