Long hair wishlist

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7,

I was going to do a Christmas wish list, but there's not really much I want. A new lense for my camera. Short post. Goodness knows I have enough clothes, hats, gloves, and whatnot to fill our apartment and then some (not that it stops me from buying the occasional hat, I last counted at......*ahem*.....122....)

So I thought I would post a few photos of girls with long hair, since thats what I've been really wanting.

Not a girl with long hair. Just the hair part.

As much as I love vintage styles, I am often drawn to a more natural look, and am really happy when I see girls embracing their natural hair texture. It just kills me when I see women fry their wavy hair in order "smooth it out". Honestly I love the look of a bit of frizz, a bit of fluff. Paired with a fresh face, it looks a little wild, in a good way.
But of course, the grass is always greener on the other side, and many ladies with straight hair will do whatever it takes to get curls.

Le sigh.

Hope you enjoy this little collection, and hope it inspires those of you who are trying to grow out your hair to keep away from the scissors!

The Edge of Love

I watched The Edge of Love about a year ago, having totally different expectations for it than what it was. To be blunt I didn't like the film, but it had great, realistic style inspiration. The only story aspect from the film I liked was the friendship between the two main characters, which reminded me of Twila Jean and myself, and of course, the way they dressed was quite similar to our style, if not something we aspire to.
In my last post a few people commented on how Twila and I looked like we were in The Edge of Love, which we took as a nice compliment, and I had to show this candid snapped of us when we arrived in Astoria the other day, it pretty much sums up our friendship: loads of giggles.

1920s Halloween Costumes

So I'm not a huge fan of Halloween. I do like the holiday, but don't get super excited for it. I suppose it has to do with the fact that if I want to dress up, I do, not matter the time of year. And I just get really sick of seeing all the cheap, skanky, pre-coordinated costumes at stores, in those little baggies. No imagination. No quality. It's like fast food in clothing form.

Anyway, the only time I really love Halloween, is when I see some vintage costumes, and decorations, specifically from the 1920s. They had the craziest, most imaginative, stunning costumes I've ever seen, even something so cliche as a witch, looks original.

I was searching for ideas for my own costume, and came across the third photo, with the spiderweb costume. And now I am going to be a spiderweb. I was going to go totally 1920s, with an actual black 1920s dress I have stored away, but instead I will wear that sequin leotard I found last week. And I'll just have to make the rest! Although since seeing that crazy picture of the two spiderweb girls and their amazing headdresses, my costume seems much less elaborate now ;)

Style inspiration, my auntie!

I've mentioned before how my aunt Nichole was my biggest influence for dressing in vintage, and now I actually get to show you why! Here are some pictures from when I was a little girl, and wanted to wear her red lipstick and pretty dresses, and some from now with her husband and four growing girls, where she still makes vintage style effortless. I'm sure you can see why vintage appealed to me looking at these photos, my aunt got her hands on the best vintage, and she always looked like she stepped out of the 40s or 50s, her closet full of the best dresses, skirts, blouses, and sweaters. A few months ago she made my dream come true and passed much of her wardrobe on to me, the same outfits that made me want to be so much like her. You can learn more about her on her blog Life in a Pink House, and see her cute outfits, and parenting tips. As you can see she didn't let having four girls be an excuse for letting go of vintage, she even looks cute riding a bike! So if you want some vintage inspiration from my inspiration, check her out.
My aunt influenced my style so much, and I hope that one day I can pass on beloved clothing to cousins who might love it as much as I do. Just the other day I was with my cousin Ruth and noticed she was wearing a 50s beaded sweater that was once a favorite of mine. Then I realized that before it was mine or hers, my aunt had given it to me just before Ruth was born 13 years ago, as she was afraid baby Ruth would pull off the beads and eat them. Luckily we don't have to worry about Ruth eating beads now :)

And in case you're wondering, the first photo is of me and my aunt, I'm wearing my favorite sweatshirt that reads "My cat walks all over me!" I thought I was pretty cool.

Vintage Vixens

As much as I love all those old fancy pictures of glamorous movie stars with smooth Vaseline faces and dramatic lighting, I get most inspiration from you vixens. Here are a few of my favorite photos. The Metropolitan Housewife has two adorable children and still manages to have flawless hair and outfits every time I see her. Casey makes me want to move to Florida so we can dress up and take cheesecake photos. She inspired a sailor outfit I wore yesterday, which of course I forgot to take a picture of.Dizzy Dame I just found not too long ago, but her blog is like looking through an old photo album full of pictures of a darling 30s gal.

I could look at Ella's blog all all morning. Oh wait, I have! Her photographs are most enchanting and imaginative. Johanna has an incredible style sense and her artwork is amazing, plus her makeup has inspired me many a time. Frances Baker is on the other end of the world, and while I'm getting ready for summer, she tempts me with talk of 40s coats.
So there you have it. A few of my favorite vixens, I hope they will inspire you too!
